Mailchimp – Installation and Setup

Mailchimp Integration Overview

The Members One Mailchimp integration allows you to sync your customers and members into a single Mailchimp audience, so you can send targeted marketing emails without managing lists by hand.

Unlike some other email platforms, Mailchimp works best with one audience per account. Members One keeps everyone in that one audience and instead uses tags to organise them. Each club and each loyalty tier becomes its own tag, and Members One updates those tags automatically whenever a member joins or leaves a club or loyalty tier.

Please note: The Mailchimp integration is currently in beta. If you run into anything unexpected, please get in touch with our support team so we can help.

How to Connect Members One to Mailchimp

To connect Members One to Mailchimp, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Log in to your Mailchimp account. Click your profile name in the bottom left-hand corner, then select Account & billing. From there go to Extras > API keys.

Step 2: Under Your API keys, select Create A Key. Give the key a name you will recognise (we recommend "Members One"), then copy the key. Keep it secure, as Mailchimp will not show it in full again.

Step 3: Go to Members One > Integrations > Connections > Email Marketing > Mailchimp. Turn on the Activate toggle, paste your API Key into the API Key field, then click Save.

Step 4: Click Test Connection. When the connection succeeds, a green Connected indicator appears and your Mailchimp audiences load into the Audience dropdown.

Step 5: Choose the audience you want to sync into from the Audience dropdown, then click Save.

Please note: Members One does not create an audience for you. Mailchimp requires details such as a physical mailing address when an audience is created, so you will need to have an audience set up in Mailchimp first, then select it here.

Congratulations! Your Members One vendor panel is now connected to Mailchimp, and new members will start syncing to your audience shortly.

Managing Clubs & Loyalty Discounts in Mailchimp

Once connected, Members One keeps your chosen audience up to date automatically. Every member's email address is added to the audience as a subscribed contact, and Members One applies tags so you can target the right people.

How members are tagged

  • Each club creates a tag in the format Club: {club name}.
  • Each loyalty tier creates a tag in the format Loyalty: {tier name}.
  • Members One adds the matching tag when a member joins and removes it when they leave, so your segments always reflect who is currently active.

Club takes priority over loyalty

  • A contact never carries both a club tag and a loyalty tag at the same time.
  • If a member has an active club membership, their club tag is applied and their loyalty tag is removed.
  • If a member has no active club membership, their active loyalty tier tag is applied instead.
  • When a club member cancels all of their clubs, Members One removes the club tag and restores their loyalty tag on the next sync.

This setup lets you build campaigns and automations in Mailchimp around a single audience, using the tags to reach exactly the members you want.

Please note: Contacts and tags are updated on a daily basis. If you have just connected Mailchimp and don't yet see your contacts or tags, please allow up to 24 hours for the first sync to complete.

Resyncing Your Contacts

When you first connect Mailchimp, Members One backfills your existing customers into the audience automatically. If you ever need to run that backfill again, for example after changing your audience selection, you can do so manually.

Step 1: Open the Mailchimp integration

  • Go to Members One > Integrations > Connections > Email Marketing > Mailchimp.

Step 2: Resync your contacts

  • Make sure the Activate toggle is on and an Audience is selected, then click Resync Contacts.
  • Members One will begin syncing your existing club and loyalty members into the selected audience. This runs in the background and may take a little while to finish.
